POSITION VACANT-PAID P/T-THIS IS NOT ART FESTIVAL CO-ORDINATOR 2008/09

An amazing opportunity for an emerging producer to organise, manage and deliver
a unique annual event. This Is Not Art is an annual not-for-profit arts and
media festival which combines the programs of Electrofringe, National Young
Writers' Festival, Sound Summit, Critical Animals and a range of other special
projects in a five day event held in Newcastle, NSW.

It is an opportunity to work on an utterly unique event with some amazing
Artistic Directors and volunteers who are inspiringly passionate about emerging
and experimental art, media making and culture. For more information on the

THE ROLE
A dynamic and self-motivated person is required for this multi-faceted role. You
will manage a range of elements in order to deliver the festival – attracting
staff and volunteers; general administration; event logistics and production;
the programming and scheduling process; sponsorships, marketing and publicity;
and budgets, funding and income streams.

The right person will be uber-organised, capable of multi-tasking, able to work
with a team and facilitate a group process, be passionate about the project, and
keen to support and grow both the event and the team who work on it. A high
level of administrative and communication skills are required.

The position is 24 hours per week, to be managed flexibly according to the needs
of the project. The position is based in Newcastle, NSW and will work from the
offices of the Octapod Association . However your team and members of the
organising body may be based in Newcastle, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane or
elsewhere across Australia. You do not have to currently live in Newcastle to
apply for the position, however you will need to be located here in order to
undertake the role, which is scheduled to commence after this year's festival
(mid-October 08).

THE ORGANISATION
The Octapod Association is a not for profit arts and new media organisation with
a resource and administrative centre for cultural and community projects based
in Newcastle, NSW. The principal Arts project that the organisation auspices is
the This Is Not Art festival. Your colleagues at the Octapod Association include
an Arts Development Officer, Tech Support Staff, Account/Bookkeeping staff,
other Project Co-ordinators and the Octapod Association Board.

This Is Not Art festival is made up of the independent festivals Electrofringe,
National Young Writers' Festival, Sound Summit and Critical Animals. The
Directors of these festivals plus other appointed staff and volunteers make up
the organising body – TINA‑org. You work collaboratively with TINA-org to
envision, create and deliver the festival.

This Is Not Art thrives on the love, skills and talents of its dedicated volunteers - why don't you join the team?


We want people who are idealistic, passionate, talented, creative and who believe in the festival like there is no tomorrow. Volunteering offers the opportunity to get behind the scenes of Australia's largest new media and digital arts festival and working with us providesbarrels of hands on, up to your elbows, life altering experience.Whether you have some time to help out prior to the festival, or acouple of hours during the event there are positions available in allaspects of the festival. It's a great way to develop skills, gainexperience in running an arts festival, and have heaps of fun!

 


Volunteer Roles Available:::: Bar Staff - Festival Club

The Festival Club is fun, vibrant and a full of interesting people, forums, performance, and other activities. If you want, or have, some bar experience, we want to hear from you! Shifts are available each

day of the Festival from Thurs 2 Oct - Mon 6 Oct. Requirements: Must have RSA.:: Sound Engineers &


Production Team - Festival Club

You'll be working with Sound Manager re sound equipment for the Festival Club. Set up and monitor sound equipment and resources, pack down equipment, resetting rooms etc. Day & night time shifts Thurs 2 Oct - Mon 6 Oct


:: Gallery Sitters

There are four gallery spaces we require wonderful people to Gallery sit during the festival. We also require Gallery sitters for two spaces 3 weeks prior to the festival. A great opportunity to interact with artists, & festival goers. Day time shifts Thurs 2 Oct - Mon 6 Oct


:: POD Space

Friendly happy people to staff the Octapod during the day, Thurs 2 Oct - Mon 6 Oct. You'll be helping people with computer/net access, photocopying, directions, programs, etc. Also just keeping the pod tidy, and the space functioning.


:: Sunday Fair - Civic Park, 5 October

We are looking for some truly wonderful people to help out with the following roles:

Site Set Up: 8am - 12 noon. We need people to help set up the site. This could include helping set up staging, hanging flags, setting up tables and chairs...

Site Pack Down: 5pm - 9pm putting away staging, tables and chairs, and decorations

Site Cleaning: helping clean up at the end of the day.


:: Surveying/Market Research

We need people who like to count or like to talk to people. You'll be going to venues and asking people to fill in short surveys, or counting heads at venues/events.  There are shifts Thurs 2 Oct - Mon 6 Oct.


:: Info Booth

We're looking for friendly happy people to staff the Info Booth during the day, for each day of the Festival Thurs 2 Oct - Mon 6 Oct. You'll be distributing Sunscreen, Programs, Maps etc and giving directions etc. It would be great if you had some knowledge of the local area so you can answer questions and point people in the right direction.


:: Stage Managers - Festival Club

You'll be keep session on time, set up for sessions, helping keep things on track.. Day & night time shifts Thurs 2 Oct - Mon 6 Oct.
